There has been a LOT of excitement here at our house as we anxiously await the premeire of the Transformers movie. I mean, what could be "cooler" than vehicles turning themselves into giant fighting robots? I think I am almost more excited about this than the kids.
This movie has definitely been targeted at the under 13 crowd, as exemplified by Burger King Kid Meal Transformer toys, to name just one of the many companies marketing it to children. My son recently celebrated his 8th birthday with a flurry of very cool Transformer toys. I like them -
A friend sent me the Plugged-In Online review of Transformers.
Parents, beware. The sexual content may not be what you want to show your young ones. An excerpt from the review regarding sexual content:
"A conversation between Sam and his parents revolves around whether or not he's been masturbating in his room. Sam does have pictures of bikini-clad models on his bedroom wall. And he confesses to having a Busty Beauties magazine under his bed."
I don't know about you, but I don't want to have to explain this to my 8 year old son just yet. The swearing is excessive, too, according to the review. Another quote:
"Transformers contains an unexpectedly high volume of vulgarities, boasting about 10 s-words and four or more uses each of the words "h---," "a--" and "d--n." "M-----f---er" is cut off in mid shout twice. The insult "b--ch" shows up once. There are crude references to urination. And an older woman flips her middle finger to her adult son.
God's name is twice combined with "d--n." "Oh my god" is exclaimed about a dozen times."
Just a little "heads up" for parents. I am glad my friend sent me the link to the review. Now I will be having my 8 and 12 year old sons sit this one out. It's tough being a parent sometimes.
The big question to me is, why? This could still be one of the best techy movies around even without the sexual content and swearing. Come on Hollywood - we WANT to see your movies! Help us out here - give us a break!
Whoa! Thanks so much for the heads up. I know I give in and deal with alot in some movies my girls watch but this is too much! I'm shocked!
ReplyDeleteThanks for giving us a heads up! My 7 yr old and 10 yr old wanted to see it too but I think NOT!
ReplyDeleteI do think that the kids' meal toys should not give away toys from movies that are rated higher than PG....maybe if we keep telling them that, they will change it.
