A nerd PW (pastor's wife) writes about my life as a mom of five kids. I survived the baby years - will I survive the teens / adult-kids-living-at- home stage? We shall see ;-)

Movie and Game Previews for Parents
I stumbled upon an excellent website called Parent Previews which gives parents a little help in trying to decide what movies, DVDs, and video games their kids should and shouldn't be allowed to see.
Parents, don't assume that a PG-13 rating is mild. I was reviewing "Hot Rod" today, and was surprised to see what a PG-13 rated movie allows in terms of swearing. (Hint: swearing with God's name, words that start with f and sh, and more... ugh!) Even content seems to be getting edgier. I don't want to type it here and generate a bunch of nasty traffic. Check the "Hot Rod" review and see for yourself.
Yes, kids will hear it/ see it in real life, but I figure I don't have to pay for them to hear it at a theater.
I used to mock parents who didn't know what their kids were watching, or playing (video games). Now that I am the mom of teens, pre-teens, and elementary aged kids, I can see how these things could easily slip past even an observant and connected parent. Isn't it funny how we always know what people should do until we actually have to do it ourselves? Heheheee...yeah, that's called getting humbled.
Take a look around at Parent Previews. I was impressed that they had actual reviews on the opening day of movies. Very helpful when one's teens are pressuring to see a movie on premier day.
Now I get to go and say no.
